DIGBY, N.S. – The 14th annual Wharf Rat Rally is Aug. 29 to Sept. 2 and organizers are looking for volunteers.

“We’re ready to start filling some shifts,” says Nadine Lauren, the office manager for the Wharf Rat Rally.

The rally is looking for volunteers of all ages. For anyone who is interested in helping organizers say they will find a position for them.

“We’ll take as many volunteers as we can get,” Lauren says. Last year the rally had more than 200 volunteers.

Some of the positions to be filled include volunteers to help with the welcome centre, the registration centre, 50/50 sales, retail store positions, cash and food runners and shuttle drivers.

To apply for a volunteer position those interested can contact the Rally store front at 902-245-5924 or drop into the store front in Digby anytime.

This year stunt rider Christina Billings will perform at the rally. She’s an experienced stunt rider based out of North Carolina. She’ll be doing a burn-out with real fire.

Through the Share the Wind program, Kevin Bean’re helps residents of long-term care facilities get the chance to experience life on a motorcycle.

“It’s just such a neat thing for someone at that age to participate in because most of them have never been on a bike before,” says Lauren.

This year’s Wharf Rat Rally is extending the Share the Wind project to the Village for Continuing Care in Windsor and the Solider Memorial Hospital in Middleton.

“This is our way to bring the Wharf Rat Rally outside of Digby and into other communities,” Lauren says.
